Day Subsiding

This is a matte painting that initially started out as a practise piece, but I ended up taking it a lot further. I tried to really achieve a sense of scale and distance, as well as a somewhat mysterious feeling.

You can find the stock photo that I worked from here:
http://www.sxc.hu/photo/26398
This, a basic stock for the sky and one texture have been all photomaterial that I used, other than that the paintbrush was my tool. It was completely done in photoshop.

Here are some close-ups:

This was selected for inclusion in the Ballistic Publishing d'artiste Digital Painting 2 Book.
I hope you enjoy this piece, but any critique is welcome, of course!

Remnants Of The Past

For this matte painting I shot a plate in a nearby city which was a panorama consisting of five or six photos. I really did not no where I would end up with this, when I began working. At first I only wanted to try and remove or replace certain elements, but then I started changing it more and more, and I think the final piece really has come a long way from the original plate. A fair number of stock photos from sxc were used in the process.

This matte was selected for inclusion in the Ballistic Publishing Exposé 6 book, I really am quite excited about that.
Here is the panorama plate that I shot:

The Hide-out

This was really done to challenge myself to a bright daylight scene, which do not allow for a whole lot of fog or mist. I had a lot of fun with this, but this matte painting definitely took me some effort, I think especially the foliage gave me frustration sometimes. It was done completely in photoshop and I worked in a good bunch of stock photos and photos that I took myself.

Here are two of the stock photos that I used:
